Summerhill’s Take On TIFF

TIFF season is here! We got inspired by the buzz in the city and decided to take on some serious movie watching. Whether your in the line for Premium Rush tickets or catching up at home, we've got you covered with the best of VIP-worthy snacks.

Toronto is THE place to be right now. From September 6 to 16, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) takes over the downtown core. A-listers swoop in to promote their films, and red carpet frenzy takes over.

We’re getting in on the excitement this year with full-size cutouts of our favourite actors and directors placed in-store! Snap a shot with Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, or Robert Pattison and a few other surprise guests! It’s almost as good as being at the premiere (bonus: no making your way through the crowds or waiting in line). Be sure to include hashtag #SummerhillxTIFF18 to be featured on our social!

This year’s film lineup is spectacular (the Oscar buzz is deafening and the films haven’t even opened yet!). There’s so much to see, so make sure you’ve got snacks sorted for the upcoming marathon. Whether you’re sneaking snacks into the theatre (shh… we won’t tell) or cozying up to a non-fest film in the comfort of home, we’ve got you covered. Take a look:

TAKE YOUR MARK

Watching the original A Star is Born before seeing the remake with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, or catching up on Director Steve McQueen’s other flicks before his much-buzzed about Widows staring Oscar winners Viola Davis and Robert Duvall?

You’re going to need something sweet. We recommend chocolate. We’ve got chocolate-covered EVERYTHING.

Seriously. A wide array of fruit, coffee, and nuts enveloped in luxurious cocoa (milk, dark, and sugar-free varieties) make for a somewhat-nutritious-yet-still-indulgent treat.

So sink your teeth into soft and chewy cherries, blueberries, and cranberries, get your caffeine fix with chocolate-dipped espresso beans, or go nuts with almonds, raisins, and bridge mixture.

Want something on the healthier side? Choose from our endless selection of salted and roasted nuts without the chocolate coating, or nuts and raisins with a probiotic boost, thanks to a finish of yogurt or Greek yogurt.

ROLL FILM

Throwing your own TIFF bash at home? In addition to sequins, confetti and something bubbly in hand, an elegant charcuterie board always impresses. It’s surprisingly easy to build your own. We recommend:

-Monnalisa “Ricotta Stagionata Tartufo,” a delish new truffle cheese

– Black Lemon Cheese (Ruscello, Product of Holland) $29.99/lb

– Beemster Gouda, PRICE

– Tapas Aperitivo, a great ready-made Spanish deli platter

Serve with Panzanello crackers and your choice of bubbles, and you’ve got yourself an award-winning combo. Cue the orchestra!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

One of the best parts of the movie-going experience is popcorn. The buttery richness combined with salty finish is the perfect accompaniment for a film, whether you’re watching a rousing drama or edge-of-your seat drama.

Go gourmet with our best-seller Truffle (drool), or take it up a notch with Cookies and Cream, Birthday Cake or other selections found near the front of the store. Of course, you can always go classic with in-house Movie Style Popcorn, Caramel or Cheddar.

Salt and savoury lovers should also pick up our housemade Kettle Chips. These thick, crunchy, salty snacks also come in a wide variety of flavours including Sea Salt, Sour Cream, BBQ, Cajun, and Truffle.

THE SWEETEST THING

Now that dinner’s sorted, let’s talk drinks and dessert.

Raise a glass to your favourite film with a G&T made with Q or Fever Tree Tonic. The kiddos can enjoy non-alcohol beverages with the fun built in – make a retro float with 1642 and Boylan Sodas mixed with vegan ice creams such as Halo Top or Nice Cream made with tigernuts.

Grown ups can add a shot of their favourite spirit to the float for an adults-only twist. And grab a spoon for dessert. Somehow it’s much more fun eating ice cream straight from the tub.

V.I.P. SNACKING

Easy to pour, germ-free glass carafes take snack time up a notch. These elegantly curved vessels allow you to divvy out portions with ease, and there’s no bowl clean up. Win-win.

That’s a wrap.
