10 Summer Fruits & Vegetables to Add to Your Grocery List

When you buy local, you end you getting the best tastes and flavours the season has to offer.

But, knowing what’s in season and when is half the battle when it comes to selecting the best of the best produce.  Whenever possible, we’re sourcing as many local products and produce as we can here at Summerhill Market.

And, since in-season produce is picked at the height of its ripeness, and is often quite abundant, you may see a drop in prices – which is an added bonus that we can pass along to our customers (along with the fresh flavour).

Here’s a list of 10 popular summer fruits and vegetables, grown in Ontario, to add to your grocery list:

  • Zucchini
  • Radicchio
  • Plums
  • Peaches
  • Peppers
  • Blueberries
  • Cooking onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Watermelon
  • Corn

Note: there are other great options too like green/yellow beans, bok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, apricots, artichoke, green onions, green peas, squash, spinach, carrots, mushrooms, goose berries, beets and celery.  All of these are grown in late summer as well and are readily available.

Eating farm to table is much easier than you think so long as you know what is in season in your own province or state.  It’s also more cost effective (usually), healthier and much more flavourful.
