Summerhill Market

our story

The Summerhill Market first opened its doors to Rosedale shoppers in 1954 in what was once the most northern outpost of the Dominion chain. Established by Frank McMullen, the store is still family run, and the dedication to personal service that was Frank’s hallmark can still be found today. The friendly staff will carry your purchases to your car, take special orders by phone, provide the cut of meat that you need, and gladly help you find anything you require.

Frank’s sons - Bob, Wayne, and Barry - soon joined their father at the Market, learning firsthand the importance of quality product and unparalleled service. In the 1980’s, the McMullen clan opened the Sherwood Market on Mount Pleasant Avenue, now run by Wayne. The third generation is now working in the business as two of Bob’s children, Brad and Christy, are now managing the Summerhill Market under Bob’s direction.

In 1991, the need for more space necessitated a move down the street to Summerhill’s current location. A full service kitchen complements the collection of gourmet and everyday grocery items, along with a selection of the finest meats, and the freshest of produce, handpicked five days a week. Heading the kitchen is Chris Klugman, one of Toronto’s finest chefs, who joined the Market after making his reputation at the Delta Chelsea Hotel and the Rosewater Supper Club.

Today, as in the past, Summerhill Market opens it s doors 364 days a year to offer the finest products and the best old-fashioned service. Word of mouth has long been our best - and only - means of advertising, and for 50 years, we have been, and remain, exclusively yours.
